Traveling Without Fear

Dear Leading Ladies,

We’d heard the reluctance to fly from friends and family, particularly on international flights and particularly since the president waged war in the Middle East.

Fear of terrorism on board.

Fear of accidents due to inadequate numbers of air traffic controllers.

Fear of a threatening ICE, military, and police presence.

We decided to fly abroad anyway.

Arriving extra early at the airport to deal with the reported crowds, we found nothing. We moved through security quickly, dare I say with efficient and even friendly care by TSA agents. Our only hitch was that the flight was oversold and we had to wait for eight passengers to volunteer to postpone their trip a few hours in exchange for $1500 cash!

Then we were on our way.

The lesson learned?

Once again, Americans who live under a regime that started a battle outside our borders remain relatively safe from the ravages of war. Being white and with means and holding incontestable citizenship is more armor.

Which all leaves us with the gigantic fear that those of us who are safe will stop being outraged by the horrors that threaten so many others.

We can’t let that happen.
