From The Homefront, Vol. 8
Dear Leading Ladies,
Another week, another seven days of juggling work from home with child care responsibilities, Netflix, home-cooked meals, Marie Kondo-inspired clean closets, and troubling thoughts about those less fortunate and what the future may hold. We hope, as always, that you and your loved ones are safe and healthy.
Our focus this week is on youth - why they care so much but vote so little and what can be done about it. We invite you to read up about what the group NextGen America is doing. NextGen America is a progressive advocacy nonprofit and political action committee created by billionaire and former presidential candidate Tom Steyer. The group mobilizes young voters on issues including climate, health care, reproductive freedom, immigration, and equality. Go to nextgenamerica.org to learn more.
Then, take a few minutes to watch a video, The Power of the Youth Vote, by political sociologist Mindy Romero from UC-Davis:
We will meet on Zoom on Thursday, May 14 at 7:30 p.m. to discuss the youth vote. You will receive an email invitation and link to Zoom next week.
A very special Happy Mother’s Day to all of you who are mothers, stepmothers, grandmothers, mothers-in-law, and those who have or had mothers. That should take care of all of us! If no one is around to give you a live hug, give yourselves one this Sunday...and every day.
Warm regards,
Therese
