Art as Activism Film Contest Invites Submissions from high school students

Leading Ladies, a nonprofit advocacy group headquartered on Boston’s North Shore, announces its first annual Art as Activism Film Contest and Screening.

Live action and animated videos of three to five minutes may be submitted on the following social justice topics: homelessness, food insecurity, affordable health care, racism and all forms of bigotry, equal access to quality education, gun control, climate change, and humane immigration practices.

Submissions will be accepted from high school students who live or go to school in Massachusetts. The top three submissions will be awarded cash prizes. The first prize will be $350; second prize $200, and third prize $100. “We’re hoping to elevate the voices of young people and to encourage kids from all backgrounds to participate,“ according to Leading Ladies founder, Therese Melden.

Judges will be professionals in the film industry and social justice world. The top ten submissions will be screened at the Cabot Theater in downtown Beverly in early 2022.

Film submission can be sent to ladies@leadingladiesvote.org. Include name, date of birth, high school and year of graduation, title of film, and a 150- 300-word statement of why the film’s subject is important to you. Submissions are due by December 1, 2021. Questions may be directed to the above email address.
