GOOD NEWS: Couple Opens Their Home to 10 Stranded Korean Tourists

Two Good Samaritans spread the Christmas spirit by opening their home to a South Korean tour group that got stuck in the snow. The ten tourists were traveling from Washington DC to Niagara Falls. Two of the men in the group knocked on doors to borrow a shovel to free their van from the snow.

Alex Campagna heard their frantic knocking on his door. He posted on Facebook, that the weather outside was “the worst blizzard I’ve experienced.”

Knowing it would be foolish to continue driving in the blizzard, he and his wife invited them all inside, putting them up on couches, air mattresses, and sleeping bags for two nights in their guest room.

“As a Buffalonian, this is on another level, the Darth Vader of storms,” he told the New York Times.

As a gesture of gratitude, the guests prepared several South Korean dishes, including jeyuk bokkeum, stir-fried pork, and dakdori tang, or spicy chicken stew. In fact, the Campagnas enjoy Korean cuisine and had some of the main ingredients on hand.

On Christmas Eve, they shared stories and watched football games together. The group was picked up on Christmas Day and taken to New York City for New Year's Eve and flights home.

Choi Yoseob, a member of the tour group, told The New York Times that it was “kind of like fate” that the group ended up in the home of a family that welcomed them with plenty of food to share.

We have enjoyed this so much,” said Choi Yoseob, a member of the group who described the experience as unforgettable and a “unique blessing.”
