Congratulations!

Dear Leading Ladies,

Congratulations!

Because of you, 2,500 postcards with images of the winning posters created by high school students for our Art as Activism contest are on their way to reluctant voters in battleground states!

That’s right! In three short weeks, we have stepped up and put our pens to paper to encourage potential voters to get to the polls, or vote by mail, or register to vote, or do whatever they need to do to have their voices heard!

We didn’t know what to expect when we put out the call. Wow, are we excited to witness the response. We shouldn’t be surprised. Women historically have done the nuts and bolts work that brings about change.

So, here’s our new challenge to you, our Leading Ladies: Let’s write another 1,000 postcards with Art as Activism images by September 1!

The first 15 postcards are free! Your only cost is for stamps. A donation of $6 per each additional pack is requested to cover our printing and shipping costs. Fill out the form here and Leading Ladies will send the postcards out to you.

Then contact one of the following groups to receive a list of names and addresses to write to.

Research confirms that people who receive postcards encouraging them to vote are positively influenced by this form of outreach! Do your part by sending one of the winning images from the Leading Ladies Art as Activism poster contest to reluctant voters throughout the country. We believe our postcards are so attractive that recipients will want to display them on their refrigerators or elsewhere so they will get additional attention from family members and friends.

Also, we have been passing on information for other ways to encourage voting in the next couple of months. For those of you in other states, signing up to drive people to polls, registering folks to vote, and canvassing door to door can be very effective. Here in Massachusetts, those actions can be helpful to residents, but will not have much impact on election results.

If you are looking for another worthy and effective way to make a difference, consider supporting voting rights organizations that work to end voter suppression among particular racial and ethnic groups. If you are wondering, for example, about the impediments facing indigenous voting, consider this quote from a 2021 article in the magazine, Rock Scissors Paper: “Voter ID laws, unreliable mail services, low polling locations, online registration issues, and discriminatory laws are some of the main issues Native voters face today. In some states, tribal IDs aren’t accepted or a residential address is required. Many Native Americans don’t have residential addresses because reservations don’t use an address system, and many Natives are impoverished and do not have a permanent residence.”  To fight these repressive voting conditions for indigenous people and others, consider donating to Native American Voting Rights, Black Voters Matter, Asian Americans Advancing Justice, Voto Latino, and others.

Let’s do it!
