A Short Update

Dear Leading Ladies,

Lest you think otherwise, this is not really your weekly newsletter from us. It is merely a note to bring you up to date on three things.

First, we want to let you know what a great day we had at Arts Fest in Beverly on Saturday. Hundreds of people stopped by to view the wonderful posters created by high school students to motivate people to vote. All were wowed by the creativity of the students and the strong messages conveyed in their work. We distributed postcards of the posters so people could share the messages with others. Special thanks to Babette Loring who donated stamps for us to give out and make it that much easier for folks to send the postcards and encourage others to vote. And thanks to the high school artists who stopped by and introduced themselves.

First place winner of the Art as Activism Poster Contest, Gabriella Winston from Essex North Shore Agricultural and Technical School, stopped by Arts Fest on Saturday.

Second, the posters moved to Beverly City Hall on Monday. Be sure to stop by and see them there, if you missed Saturday’s event.

Third, we are going to our summer schedule of sending newsletters every two weeks, so look forward to a “real” newsletter next Wednesday, June 26,  and every two weeks thereafter until September.

In the meantime, some stories worth following are the rise in opioid deaths in Massachusetts; Rev. William J. Barber II’s recently published book, White Poverty; and new Massachusetts legislation that will include coercive control as a form of abuse.

November is getting close. Speak your voice; support your candidates; make sure everyone you know is registered to vote!

All the best,

Therese (she/her/hers)
