From The Homefront, Vol. 10
Dear Leading Ladies,
I’m sure you all read with great interest Governor Baker’s announcement about the first stage of his plan for reopening the Commonwealth. Although we are still advised to practice social distancing and to stay at home as much as possible, some of our favorite outdoor spots are now open and more businesses are available for curbside purchases. It’s a start.
During last Thursday’s Zoom discussion group about the challenges of engaging the youth vote, several ideas for action came up. Two are currently being pursued; once we have more information about how they may be realized, we will share them. We will only say now that one involves ice cream. Stay tuned!
Until then, we invite you to watch another TEDx Talk entitled “The Opportunity Gap in US Public Education - and How to Close It” (only seven minutes long) and read the article “The Shift to Online Learning Could Worsen Educational Inequality”. As we have seen in the last two months, as schools and teachers have had to offer education online, there are immense challenges. Schools with fewer resources in the classroom have fewer resources to offer online. And so it goes. Now is the perfect time for us to commit ourselves to a public education system that serves all our children well. We look forward to discussing this issue on Thursday, May 28 at 7:30 p.m. on Zoom. A link will be sent in an invitation and in next week’s e-newsletter.
Stay well and at a safe distance!
