Pew Research: RFK Jr. Faces More Disapproval Than Support as U.S. Health Secretary

Since taking office in February 2025, Health Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. has made headlines — and stirred controversy. A new Pew Research Center survey shows that more Americans disapprove (43%) than approve (36%)of how he’s handling his role. Another 21% say they’re not sure, underscoring public uncertainty around his leadership.

RFK Jr.'s early actions include cutting 10,000 jobs across health agencies, urging state bans on fluoride in drinking water, and addressing a measles outbreak in Texas. These high-profile decisions have sharply divided public opinion along political lines.

  • 72% of Democrats disapprove of Kennedy’s job performance, with strong disapproval highest among liberal Democrats (83%).

  • 66% of Republicans approve of his performance, especially conservative Republicans (74%).

Even within parties, age makes a difference:

  • Older Democrats (50+) are more likely to disapprove (79%) than younger ones (67%).

  • Older Republicans (50+) are more likely to approve (71%) than their younger counterparts (60%).

Meanwhile, younger Americans across the spectrum are more likely to say they don’t yet know how to assess Kennedy’s performance — a sign that many are still watching, questioning, or waiting for clarity.
