Pew Research: 61% of Americans Disapprove of Trump's Handling of the Iran War

The American people have spoken. And what they have said is unambiguous.

About six-in-ten Americans — 61% — disapprove of President Trump's handling of the U.S. military action against Iran. Only 37% approve. This is not a close call. This is a majority verdict on a war that was launched without congressional authorization, without a clear objective, and without a plan for what comes after.

A similar share — 59% — say the United States made the wrong decision in using military force against Iran in the first place. Only 38% say it was the right decision.

The data on safety is equally striking. By nearly two-to-one, more Americans say the military action will make the U.S. less safe in the long run — 40% — than say it will make the country safer — 22%.

And most Americans are not buying the administration's promise of a quick resolution. A majority — 54% — believe the military action will continue for at least six more months. Twenty-nine percent think it will last a year or more.

This is not a partisan fringe position. This is where the American people actually stand — six weeks into a war that is costing $50 billion, driving gas prices past $4 a gallon, and sending flag-draped coffins home to grieving families who never got a vote.

The data is clear. The will of the American people is clear. Now it is Congress's turn to act.
