Good News: A Courtroom Full of Friends

On the biggest day of his life, 11-year-old Cain Coles didn't walk into that Texas courtroom alone.

After two years in foster care, he was about to be officially adopted by Vandria and Tyrone Johnson — the mom, dad, and 9-year-old sister he'd come to call his own. The whole family dressed in matching western outfits for the occasion.

But waiting inside the courtroom was a surprise he never saw coming: 45 of his fifth-grade classmates from Bell Elementary, all there to cheer him on. Hug after hug after hug.

When the judge said "I'll happily approve this adoption," the room erupted.

Cain left that courtroom with a forever family and a new name he chose himself: Alexander Kaine Johnson.

When asked what he wanted to say to his new parents, Alexander kept it simple:

"I love them so much."

And to his classmates: "It was very fun and very emotional. I had a great time. I appreciate all my friends coming with me."

This is what community looks like. This is what love does.
