An End to Habeas Corpus
Dear Leading Ladies,
Judy is away this week, walking around the Lake District of Denmark wearing a hat that says, “Elect a clown. Expect a circus” to assure any Danes she encounters that she is not in favor of the United States annexing Greenland.
Ŵe look forward to reading her anecdotes about how Danes view the current state of affairs in our country.

In the meantime, we are keeping our eyes on Trump’s latest power grab to dismantle the Constitution by ending the writ of habeas corpus, which guarantees the right of an individual to see a judge, challenge the government’s evidence against them, and present a defense.
Habeas corpus has long been the law of the land, and can be overturned only by an act of Congress, not the president.
To learn more, consult time.com, aclu.org, and law.cornell.edu for starters.
The end of writ of habeas corpus is particularly upsetting now as ICE officers ramp up their activities and show up in sensitive areas such as schools, medical offices, and churches.
Until next week,
