From The Homefront, Vol. 1
Dear Leading Ladies,
These are busy and confusing times! Between the many primary elections and the coronavirus pandemic, our minds and hearts are overwhelmed with rapidly changing developments. Luckily, as women, we can handle it.
And there is some good news. For those of us who stood outside libraries and grocery stores on March 2, we were greeted with thumbs up and thank yous more often than not. And for those of us who set up a table in the dining hall at The Governor's Academy a couple of weeks ago, we were wowed by the enthusiasm and interest of the high school students. These young men and women are earnest and thoughtful and ready to be leaders. There is reason to be hopeful.
Recognizing that gathering in large groups is ill-advised, we are asking Leading Ladies to make phone calls and send postcards, emails, and texts from the safety of their homes to encourage people to vote in local and national elections for candidates and causes you support. Attached is some helpful information, including a suggested letter to the editor. Please paraphrase the letter and put it in your own words so the same letter doesn’t appear under different names in the same newspaper! Attached are also suggestions for speaking to your legislators about Election Day Registration.
The Coronavirus crisis has our legislators dealing daily with new laws and regulations to protect the public. We urge you to stay abreast of developments and contact Massachusetts Senators Markey and Warren to express your support for the urgent needs and thank them for their actions.
Social Media is a powerful tool we can marshal to engage a wider audience. Please follow, like, share, and comment @leadingladiesvote on Facebook and Instagram posts. When commenting on our social media, please tag your friends and family to broaden our circle of vigilance over these important issues.
Please send us additional ideas for outreach we can engage in during this period of physical confinement. We can use this time at home to make some noise and get some attention for the causes we hold dear - those that affect our families, children, and environment.
Best,
Therese
