Dear Leading Ladies,

A Day for Democracy is a new nonpartisan coalition of business leaders that we want to spread the word about! Started by Boston real estate developer Peter Palandjian, A Day for Democracy is asking employers nationwide to take a pledge to:

1. Give their employees time off to vote and encourage and assist them in registering to vote and participating in local, state, and national elections.

2. Support their employees in the entire voting process from registration and reminders about upcoming elections to locating polling stations and facilitating voting by mail.

3. Take the pledge and make their commitment public, thereby encouraging other CEOs and business leaders to take the pledge.

While we are well aware that there are many kinds of voter suppression that impact citizens throughout the country, including gerrymandering, unfair requirements for identification, withholding of information, and racist policies, and while we can hope that laws may someday be changed so that there is a national holiday for voting so that all workers can cast their ballots without jeopardizing their paychecks, the business leaders behind #aDayforDemocracy are promoting a way for those with economic power to do what politicians in power have failed to do: Make voting more available to the working man and woman.

So, if you are an employer, please sign the pledge. If someone you are close to is an employer, ask him or her to sign the pledge. And, if you are an employee, please ask your employer to sign the pledge. Learn more at ADayforDemocracy.com.

Thank you and stay well!
