  • Economy
For decades Tom has advocated for a wealth tax on the assets owned by billionaires. A 10% yearly wealth tax on those assets would bring the U.S. Treasury billions in added revenue each year. For example, if Elon Musk was taxed on the assets he owned in 2025, which Forbes estimates were valued at $749 billion, he'd pay $74, 900 billion in taxes for 2025.

    Healthcare
New Mexico voters consistently say the cost of living is their top concern, with healthcare costs leading those concerns. Medicare for All, which Tom has supported for over 40 years, would provide all Americans with free healthcare at the point of service. A recent survey by Data for Progress finds that 65% of voters support a national health insurance program that would cover all Americans, this includes 78% of Democrats, 71% of Independents, and 49% of Republicans.

    Other
The son of an immigrant father from Santiago, Chile, Tom was born into a Catholic family in San Antonio, Texas. Tom has integrated college basics with self-taught skills, becoming well-rounded, innovative, and more adaptable than some who have relied solely on traditional educational paths. In Denver, Tom studied journalism and political science at Loretto Heights College. At the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, he enrolled in the school's peace and conflict studies program. He studied Biology and Earth Sciences at Ohio State University. He completed his education by studying Liberation Theology at the Chicago Theological Seminary. // A Vietnam-era USAF veteran, Tom, worked with César Chávez on the grape boycott campaign in Texas, New Mexico, and Colorado. On one visit to Denver, he met the President of Local #105 of the Service Employees International Union. That meeting led to Tom being offered a job organizing nurses, race track employees, window washers, and janitors. // Tom entered the 2016 Texas Democratic primary for Congress, running as an economic populist and a democratic socialist. He won that contested primary, beating a party picked candidate, a multi-millionaire tech guy out of Austin. Though he lost the general election to a 20 year Republican incumbent, Tom walked away with another hard life lesson learned. A lesson that has prepared him not only for his 2026 New Mexico democratic congressional primary election but how to go on to win the November general election as an economic populist.

  • Background and Experience
"Determined to serve his country, when Jose was enlisting in the Marines, he was selected into the Officers Training Program, but a training accident meant he couldn't serve. Undeterred, he found another way to give back to his country—working as a contractor with the DEA, where he helped take down cartels, stop human traffickers, and keep drugs like fentanyl off our streets. He went on to fight for conservative policies and create jobs here in New Mexico.

Now, Jose is running for Congress in New Mexico’s 2nd District to fight for our values and our future. He’ll work to lower taxes and tackle inflation, back law enforcement against gangs and traffickers, protect oil and gas jobs that power our economy, and give President Trump an ally in Congress."
