  • Background and Experience
    As State Auditor, Matt works to improve efficiency of state government, eliminate waste, and prevent fraud. Previously, Matt was Maine’s Secretary of State. During Trump’s first term, Matt was appointed to serve on what was supposed to be a bipartisan “election integrity” commission – but when it became clear the panel was just a front for a fraudulent power grab, Matt stood up to Trump, won in court, and forced the panel to be dissolved.

  • Economy
    Will work to eliminate wasteful spending. Known for supporting tax reductions-wants to suspend certain taxes and fees, Emphasizes the importance of a responsible state budget-critical of excessive spending policies. Wants to reduce government spending by reducing size of government, will eliminate red tape and promote business. A proponent of welfare reform. Left Maine in a financial mess when he left office in 2019.

    Women's Rights
    Opposes abortion rights. Supports restricting abortion, cut funding (as governor) for Maine’s family planning program and attempted to veto legislation to expand reproductive healthcare for low income individuals. Would veto a 15 week abortion ban. Opposes taxpayer funded abortions Committed to fairness and common sense and supporting everyone’s rights without ignoring biological reality in context of sports and locker rooms. Seems to have a mixed record on stance on women’s rights-particularly re reproductive healthcare. Past actions and statements indicate a broader threat to reproductive rights for women of Maine.

    Gun Control
    Will defend 2nd amendment rights and fight government overreach.

    Immigration
    Will fight to finish the wall, end illegal immigration and restore law and order.

    LGBTQ Policy
    Opposed same sex marriage in the past, vetoed a ban on conversion therapy, has joined lawsuits challenging anti-discrimination protections for LGBTQ+ Americans-says Civil Rights Act shouldn’t protect against discrimination based on sexual orientation or gender identity. In 2016 he stopped the Maine Human Rights Commission and Dept of Education from implementing rules protecting transgender students.. His actions and statements while in office suggest he has been an opponent of expanding LGBTQ+ rights and protections.

    Background and Experience
    Governor of Maine from 2011-2019, Mayor of Waterville Maine 2004-2011 Ran for Governor in 2022 but lost to Janet Mills.

    Will protect Medicare and Social Security.
