Welcome to this month’s 3 in 30, where we explore the theme Marvels of Engineering through some of the most technical and fascinating objects in the Historic Beverly collection.
While many items in our collection are simple, functional, and straightforward, others reveal remarkable complexity and ingenuity. In this fast-paced, 30-minute program, we’ll take a closer look at three standout examples of human innovation: a purely mechanical calculator, a mercury-filled barometer, and a fully functioning miniature steam engine.
Learn the history behind these objects, the ingenuity required to create them, and, in some cases, the surprising circumstances under which they were made. All three objects will be on display, and yes, they still work!
Admission is free; a $5 donation is recommended and encouraged. Join us for a behind-the-scenes look at the mechanics, creativity, and problem-solving that brought these marvels to life.
